The Faculty of Humanities was established in 1989. It unites liberal arts, social and economicdepartments five of which offer academic courses for the students of the whole University. Nowadays the Faculty staff includes 150 teachers most of whom are women. In 1999 the Faculty opened the Centre of Social Research which is the education and research laboratory.

The Faculty research programs are:

social informatics
philosophy of science and techniques
problems in management, sociology and politics
philosophy and psychology of education

The Faculty offers postgraduate and doctorate degrees programmes.

In 1993 the Faculty with the co-operation of Towson University (Maryland, USA) started the Public Relations programme. Professors from Towson University deliver lectures to students of PR department. The academic program is based on three major points: good humanitarian education, profound study of foreign languages, students’ meetings with experts in advertising, management and public relations. In 1999 first in Russia graduates got diplomas of Public Relations specialists and received certificates from Towson University.
